THE ROLE:
The Manager, Social Media – X at EBONY is a digital strategist and cultural insider who lives and breathes X (Twitter), with a deep passion for Black culture. This role is responsible for managing EBONY’s presence on X (Twitter), requiring a sharp understanding of what performs well on the platform and how to craft impactful, high-engagement posts. This person is always tapped into the latest conversations, trending topics, and cultural moments, with the ability to engage in real-time discussions that resonate with EBONY’s audience. They should be highly skilled at writing compelling, on-brand copy, crafting engaging threads, and leveraging platform features to spark meaningful dialogue. A proactive, fast-paced, and social-first mindset is essential, as this role will be at the forefront of shaping EBONY’s voice on X, fostering community engagement, and driving audience growth. This role sits within the Brand & Marketing department on the Social Media team and reports directly to the Director, Social Media.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy & Content Creation:
- Own and manage EBONY’s X (Twitter) account, developing a platform-specific strategy that drives engagement and audience growth.
- Stay deeply connected to trending topics, cultural conversations, and viral moments, ensuring EBONY remains part of the larger dialogue.
- Craft compelling, on-brand copy for tweets, threads, and real-time engagement that sparks conversation and resonates with the audience.
- Utilize multimedia formats (GIFs, images, videos, polls, Spaces) to enhance content performance.
Content Calendar & Scheduling:
- Develop and maintain a strategic content calendar for X, aligning posts with key cultural moments and brand initiatives.
- Schedule and publish posts at optimal times to maximize reach and engagement.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure X content complements broader social and marketing campaigns.
Community Engagement & Growth:
- Actively engage in cultural and industry conversations, responding in real time to relevant trends, news, and audience interactions.
- Develop and implement engagement strategies that foster an active and loyal community.
- Monitor replies, mentions, and DMs to maintain brand presence and audience relationships.
Analytics & Performance Optimization:
- Track key performance metrics (views, engagement, follower growth) and use insights to refine content strategy.
- Provide regular performance reports and recommendations for content improvements.
- A/B test different content styles to understand what resonates best with the X audience.
Influencer & Partnership Collaborations:
- Engage with key figures on X to expand EBONY’s visibility and influence on the platform.
- Identify, source, and manage influencer partnerships, from initial outreach to content collaboration, execution, and performance tracking, to ensure alignment with EBONY’s target audience and social strategy.
- Support influencer-led campaigns by ensuring proper amplification and engagement.
Company-Wide Initiatives & Support:
- Participate in weekly team meetings to provide updates and collaborate on broader marketing strategies.
- Support event coverage, brand activations and monthly cover shoots by contributing creative content ideas and capturing real time coverage.
- Assist with cross-functional projects that align with EBONY’s digital and social media
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders of all levels to complete tasks from larger ideation to day-to-to social posts
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-4 years of hands-on social media experience, with a strong focus on X (Twitter) content creation, strategy, and community engagement.
- Deep knowledge of X trends, platform best practices, and cultural conversations, with the ability to engage in real time.
- Exceptional copywriting and storytelling skills, with experience crafting engaging tweets, threads, and viral content.
- Proven ability to manage a content calendar and schedule posts for a brand or media company.
- Proficiency in Canva, CapCut, Monday.com, Sprout, Microsoft Office (or similar)
- Strong social copywriting and storytelling skills tailored for X, with experience managing brand accounts and crafting engaging copy in a brand-forward tone.
- Ability to analyze platform metrics and apply insights to optimize engagement and content performance.
- Strong understanding of digital culture, Black culture, and audience behaviors on X.
- Comfortable engaging with audiences in real time and making quick, strategic decisions.
- Team player with an entrepreneurial, proactive, and trend-savvy mindset—someone who takes initiative, thinks creatively, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to attend events, cover live moments, and collaborate on company-wide initiatives.
- Must have an interest in the culture and elevating the Black identity.
